Recently implemented a fairly naive particle system for libmal. It works well enough, but there are definitely some improvements to be made. The addition has already made some great visual enhancements for the game though. The stars in our demo skybox are a lot more interesting - gradients instead of flat circles. We get a nifty 'dust' effect to add a sense of momentum in the world. There are also showers of 'warp magic' for when the player gets teleported or sent to a checkpoint. The lava looks cool as well, with rocks randomly spewing up from the flow of magma. You can see them all in the screenshot below.

Every improvement comes at the cost of older/slower machines though. Sorry netbook owners!
